DON'T SKIP THE SMALL STUFF: THE IMPORTANCE OF BASICS FOR COMPLICATED CASES
Juliana DeWillems • Chicago
There’s a misconception that the skills needed for teaching obedience or tricks and those required to improve reactivity or aggression are completely different. However, both undeniably require a strong foundation in observation, timing, and reinforcement delivery.
During this presentation, Juliana will break down an intra-household dog aggression case where she used her clicker training skills to improve the relationship between two large-breed female dogs. Prior to working with her, these dogs had gotten into fights that resulted in trips to the emergency vet. Over the course of a year, training “basics” helped Juliana navigate the dogs’ reintroduction and achieve harmonious coexistence.
Find out what happened with this case as Juliana shares how clicker training played a role in every step of the process. You will learn about where training “basics” apply in complicated, high-stakes behavior cases.
