Laura VanArendonk Baugh is a crossover trainer. She is particularly interested in more efficient behavior change as well as the general holistic effects of training. Laura became a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner in 2008 and has since returned to the Academy as an instructor. She is also certified in TAGteach and is the author of Fired Up, Frantic, and Freaked Out and Social, Civil, and Savvy.

Allie Bender, CDBC, CPDT-KA, SBA, is the founder and co-owner of Pet Harmony Animal Behavior & Training. She co-authored the book Canine Enrichment for the Real World and co-hosts the Enrichment for the Real World Podcast. Through Pet Harmony, Allie specializes in helping pets with maladaptive behaviors and their owners achieve harmonious households worldwide. She also mentors and educates aspiring behavior professionals to deliver exceptional services to their clients.
A national speaker and published author, Allie is a passionate advocate for animal welfare, with a career spanning since 2006 in roles including founding a student-run animal welfare organization. Her professional dog training journey began in 2012, and by 2015, she assumed the role of lead dog behavior consultant for a large, multi-species animal sanctuary. Allie holds a BS in Animal Science from Iowa State University and certifications from the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants and the Council for Certification of Professional Dog Trainers.

Aaron Clayton is the CEO of Karen Pryor Clicker Training (KPCT). He joined the company in 2001 and with Karen Pryor, and now with Ken Ramirez, has piloted the company’s growth for over a decade and a half. He is a management executive with approximately 25 years of experience growing service-based businesses. Of all his experiences, Aaron’s involvement with teaching and learning as the president of KPCT has been the most fun and reinforcing (pun intended!).
Prior to joining KPCT, Aaron helped found and fund a human resources company and was a partner at a business strategy consultancy focused on improving the market position and performance of Fortune 500 companies. He is a board member of TAGteach, LLC. Aaron holds a bachelor’s degree from Brown University and an M.B.A from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
Juliana DeWillems is a Certified Dog Trainer and Dog Behavior Consultant, and the owner of JW Dog Training in the Washington, D.C. area. She began training dogs in 2013, jump-starting her career by graduating from the Karen Pryor Academy with distinction. After earning her first certification, Juliana worked with a behavior team at a large city animal shelter as well as with private clients. Working with a diverse population of dogs between the shelter and training clients equipped Juliana with extensive hands-on expertise in solving behavior issues. This led to a well-rounded perspective on how to use positive reinforcement techniques to effectively and efficiently help dogs and the people who care for them. Juliana specializes in dogs who display fearful, reactive, and aggressive behavior.
Juliana is the author of the book Manage It! Hacks for Changing Your Dog’s Behavior. She also serves as a Karen Pryor Academy faculty member, teaching trainers about the principles of behavior science and clicker training. When she is not training private clients or teaching her KPA students, Juliana works with brands and media outlets to educate the public about dog training and behavior. Juliana's insights have been featured on the radio, in national magazines, on multiple Washington D.C. news programs, and prominent retail and business websites. The most valued part of her job as a dog trainer and behavior consultant is improving the human-canine bond.

Monique Feyrecilde (pronounced Fair-child) is a veterinary technician specialist in behavior, dedicated to full-time work in small animal private veterinary practice. She is a seasoned educator, trainer, veterinary professional, author, and dog sports competitor. Monique emphasizes creating humane and practical solutions that prioritize the welfare of both pets and people.
Monique authored the textbook Cooperative Veterinary Care, numerous online educational modules, peer-reviewed articles, textbook chapters, and webinars. She has been a featured speaker at every major veterinary conference in North America and was honored as Speaker of the Year at VMX, the world's largest veterinary conference. Monique has also been recognized as PetPlan USA & Canada Technician of the Year. Jade Fountain is an animal behaviour and training consultant and the founder of Animal Behaviour Matters.She works with all species, from marsupials and big cats to companion animals and sea lions. Throughout her career, she has led behaviour teams in shelters, trained service dogs for autism, PTSD, and mobility assistance, detection dogs, and African pouched rats for conservation, and trained animals for the film industry. Jade has lectured in applied behaviour and animal training at universities and colleges and has taught workshops for animal handlers and trainers in Australia, Africa, the USA, and Scandinavia. She has been involved in conservation-based recovery programs at zoos and wildlife parks throughout Australia and Africa, most recently conducting research in Tanzania with APOPO Herorats.
Jade is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide in Australia, researching animal training and enrichment to improve welfare with a focus on scent work. She holds an MSc in Zoology (Animal Behaviour), a Masters in Applied Behaviour Analysis, and a BSc in Zoology/Psychology. She is a Certified Canine & Feline Behaviour Consultant with the International Association of Animal Behaviour Consultants (IAABC), CPDT-KA, and graduate of Karen Pryor Academy.

Susan G. Friedman, Ph.D., is a professor emeritus in the Department of Psychology at Utah State University and the owner of Behavior Works Consulting, LLC. She has co-authored chapters on behavior change in five veterinary texts, and her popular articles have been translated into 17 languages. Susan teaches seminars and courses on animal learning online (How Behavior Works: Living & Learning with Animals), which have been attended by students from 64 countries so far.
Susan consults with zoos and animal organizations worldwide and teaches annually for the British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA) Animal Trainer Accreditation program. She was appointed to the Fish & Wildlife Service’s California Condor Recovery Team from 2002 to 2010, after which the team was retired due to the success of the birds in the wild. Currently, she is the Chairperson of the Scientific Advisory Committee of American Humane Association (AHA) Film and TV Unit. In 2022, Susan was honored to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Pet Dog Trainers.

Mary Hunter holds an undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Chicago and a master’s degree in Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas. She is the founder of Behavior Explorer, a business that offers educational courses and programs for individuals interested in the science of behavior. Additionally, Mary serves as an adjunct instructor in the Behavior Analysis Department at the University of North Texas.
In 2019, Mary co-authored her first book, PORTL: The Portable Operant Research and Teaching Lab, with Dr. Jesús Rosales-Ruiz. Her research focuses on the process of shaping behavior and improving methods for teaching people to train animals. Her master’s thesis, which examined the effects of a single reinforcer during shaping, was published in 2019 in the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior.

Alexandra Kurland has built her life around horses. She is a graduate of Cornell University where she specialized in animal behavior. Alexandra began teaching in the early 1980s. Her area of particular interest is the development of a horse’s balance: physical and emotional. Helping horses stay sound throughout a long lifetime is the goal. The results are beautiful horses that feel like heaven to ride.
In 1998, Alexandra launched the rapidly growing field of clicker training for horses with the publication of her first book, Clicker Training for Your Horse. Pre-pandemic Alexandra traveled widely, teaching at clinics and conferences. In 2020, she switched to teaching on Zoom and discovered that this medium is a great way to help people with their horses.
Alexandra has written The Click That Teaches: A Step–By–Step Guide in Pictures and has also produced The Click That Teaches: Riding with the Clicker. She has also produced The Click That Teaches DVD lesson series, and an online training course. People outside the horse community may know her best through her weekly Equiosity podcast.
Melissa Millett is the founder and head trainer of In Dogs We Trust and The Ultimutts, and Ultimutt Animal Actors. She has trained thousands of family pets and is recognized globally as an animal expert. Melissa has been featured on major Canadian TV networks, including Breakfast Television (Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary), CP24, Global News, CTV (Toronto, Vancouver), Animal Planet, The Pet Network, and more. She is the host of the popular television shows Doggy House Calls and the spin-off series Doggy Diaries across Canada.

Emma Parsons is currently a Canine Behavior Training Consultant at Emma Parsons, LLC. She specializes in managing and rehabilitating the reactive and aggressive dog and has authored three books on the subject: Teaching the Reactive Dog Class, Click to Calm: Healing the Aggressive Dog, andThe NEW Click to Calm: Solutions for All Dogs in a Challenging World. Emma also works with agility competitors whose dogs are experiencing emotional difficulties related to the sport. Emma is a faculty member of Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training & Behavior (KPA-CTP) and the Karen Pryor ClickerExpo conferences. Chirag Patel runs Domesticated Manners in London, UK. He consults on the ethical and science-based practice of behavior management and training for animals housed in domestic, zoo, and laboratory environments. Chirag also conducts workshops for professionals internationally and was a behavior consultant on the BBC 1 television show Nightmare Pets SOS.
Chirag earned his BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Sciences from the Royal Veterinary College in London and a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Animal Behavior from the University of Lincoln, UK. He is also a certified parrot behavior consultant (CPBC) with the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). Michele Pouliot has worked with dogs and horses professionally since 1970. She studied horsemanship under Linda Tellington-Jones and graduated at the school’s highest riding instructor level. When Michele acquired her first dog, she quickly became hooked on dog training, which altered her career path focus. Horses continue to be Michele’s hobby and life love.
In 1974, Michele joined Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB), the largest guide-dog school in North America. She trained more than 350 guide-dog teams over her 42-year career with GDB. She began to shift her training methods to clicker training in 2000. Michele guided the GDB organization away from historical punishment-based techniques to positive reinforcement methods. Michele has led her school, and dozens of guide-dog programs globally, in the adoption of clicker training for all aspects of guide-dog work. In 2016, the International Guide Dog Federation presented a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to Michele.
Since retiring from her guide-dog career, Michele continues to teach and consult for guide- and service-dog organizations within the USA and internationally; she also coaches clicker training for dog sports. She was invited by Karen Pryor to join the ClickerExpo conference faculty in 2007. Michele considers ClickerExpo the highlight of each year, learning as much from faculty associates as others learn from her.
Michele has been successful in canine dog sports since 1972. She was active in competition obedience for 20+ years, gaining four OTCH (Obedience Trial Championships) titles with her own dogs. Michele also competed in tracking and agility. In 2005, Michele discovered a new sport, Canine Musical Freestyle. She fell in love with this challenging and creative hobby and became a leader in the sport, earning multiple Canine Musical Freestyle championship titles and winning national and international competitions. Michele and her Australian shepherd, Listo, made canine freestyle history with the World Canine Freestyle Organization as the first team to receive perfect scores in both Artistic and Technical categories, repeating this incredible achievement 24 times. Often referred to as a “trainers’ trainer,” Michele is known as a clear, down-to-earth, enthusiastic teacher who demonstrates her love for animals and people every time she speaks. Although she is enjoying spending more time at home since retirement, Michele continues to be passionate about teaching positive reinforcement training.

Ken Ramirez is the Executive Vice-President (EVP) and Chief Training Officer of Karen Pryor Clicker Training (KPCT). There he helps to oversee the vision, development, and implementation of training education programs for the organization.
A 50+-year veteran of animal care and training, Ken is a biologist and animal behaviorist who has overseen or consulted on training projects for many zoological organizations throughout the world. He began his training career working with guide dogs for the visually impaired and continues to work with organizations training dogs for service work, search-and-rescue, bomb detection, and narcotic detection. Ken has also maintained a close affiliation with pet training throughout his career.
Prior to his work with KPCT, Ken served as EVP of Animal Care and Animal Training at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium for more than 25 years. There he developed and supervised animal care and animal health programs, staff training and development, and public presentation programs for more than 32,000 animals. Ken has written for numerous scientific publications and authored countless popular articles. He is the author of the bestselling Animal Training: Successful Animal Management through Positive Reinforcement as well as his newest book, The Eye of the Trainer: Animal Training, Transformation, and Trust.
Ken taught a graduate course on animal training at Western Illinois University for 20 years and has been active in several professional organizations, including as a past president of the International Marine Animal Trainer’s Association (IMATA). He is actively involved in the creation of a certification process for animal trainers in zoological settings. Currently, Ken is developing courses and programming at The Ranch, the Karen Pryor National Training Center in the state of Washington.
Dr. Jesús Rosales-Ruiz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Behavior Analysis at the University of North Texas. He obtained his Ph.D from the University of Kansas in 1995 under the direction of Dr. Donald M. Baer. Jesús serves on several editorial boards, including the European Journal of Behavior Analysis and the International Journal of Psychology and Psychological Therapy. His areas of interest include antecedent control of behavior, generalization, behavioral cusps, fluency-based teaching, treatment of autism, teaching of academic behavior, animal training, and rule- and contingency-shaped behavior.
Michael Shikashio, CDBC, is the founder of AggressiveDog.com and focuses on teaching other professionals worldwide how to successfully handle aggression cases. He is a five-term president of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) and was named the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) Member of the Year in 2020.
Michael is sought after for his expert opinion by numerous media outlets, including the New York Times, New York Post, Fox News, USA Today, The List TV, Baltimore Sun, WebMD, Women’s Health Magazine, Real Simple Magazine, SiriusXM Radio, The Chronicle of the Dog, and Steve Dale’s Pet World. Melissa Taylor, CBCC-KA, CSB-C, is the Behavior and Training Manager at Friends For Life Animal Shelter, a progressive animal welfare organization in Houston, Texas. At FFL, Melissa heads a comprehensive, animal-centered behavior program that includes in-house animal care, community outreach, and inter-shelter consultation. With over 20 years of experience in shelter animal behavior, her journey began with an internship at the ASPCA’s Animal Behavior Center in New York City. Her passion for cooperative care grew from training livestock and wildlife as the coordinator of the Behavior and Training Department at the Houston SPCA, and she now applies the same principles to the dogs, cats, exotics, and humans she works with now at Friends For Life.
Melissa thrives on using data to create innovative projects that improve the lives of shelter animals and the people who care for them. For example, she started the Fraidy Cat Program to reliably shape and generalize prosocial behaviors in undersocialized cats. Her non-compulsive, choice-based training and behavior modification program is associated with a 67% reduction in the number of long-stay dogs at Friends For Life.
Throughout her career, Melissa has focused on the development of shelter programs related to animal behavior. She has partnered with other shelters locally and globally to start behavior volunteer, fearful cat socialization, enrichment, and animal-centered staff training initiatives.
In recognition of her contributions, Melissa was awarded the 2022 Member of the Year Award by the Association For Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) for her work as co-chair of the APDT Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, examining the experiences of BIPOC members of the professional dog training community. Laura Monaco Torelli is the founder of Animal Behavior Training Concepts in Chicago, Illinois. Her career began in 1991 at Chicago’s Shedd Aquarium, where she was part of the animal care team for beluga whales, dolphins, sea otters, seals, river otters, and penguins. After nearly a decade at the Shedd, she moved on to the San Diego Zoo and then Brookfield Zoo as a lead supervisory trainer. During her time in the zoo community, Laura worked with a wide variety of species, including primates, large cats, birds of prey, horses, parrots, tree kangaroos, giraffes, red pandas, and dogs.
Laura is a Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Training & Behavior faculty member and is a Teaching Assistant for Dr. Susan G. Friedman’s Living & Learning with Animals online course. Lori Stevens (CPDT-KA, SAMP, CCFT, CPBC) uses humane and scientific methods to improve the health, behavior, and performance of animals. Her experience is holistic and incorporates respect for animals as teachers. She continually studies the interactions among animal behavior, movement, learning, and health, and this effort is reflected in her innovative approach.

Kathy Sdao is an applied animal behaviorist. She has spent more than 30 years as a fulltime animal trainer, first with marine mammals and now with dogs and their people. Kathy received a master’s degree in experimental psychology from the University of Hawaii. The United States Navy then hired her to train dolphins for open-ocean tasks. Kathy next worked as a marine-mammal trainer at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Later, Kathy co-created Tacoma’s first dog daycare facility, where she began teaching clicker training classes.
Since 1998, Kathy has owned Bright Spot Dog Training. Services include consulting with families about their challenging dogs, teaching private lessons, and mentoring professional trainers. Kathy is proud to be an original faculty member at Karen Pryor Clicker Training’s ClickerExpo conferences.

Dr. Christopher Pachel is a board-certified veterinary behaviorist and the owner and lead clinician at the Animal Behavior Clinic in Portland, Oregon. Dr. Pachel lectures extensively both domestically and internationally, teaches courses at multiple veterinary schools in the United States, and has authored numerous articles and book chapters geared toward veterinarians and pet owners. He is a sought-after expert witness for legal cases and serves on the Editorial Advisory Board for dvm360. Sarah Owings is a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP). She specializes in learner-centric applications of behavioral principles that help transform the lives of fearful, shut-down, and over-the-top dogs—as well as the lives of the people who care for them. As an international speaker and regular contributor to online training forums, she is known for her innovative approaches to tough behavior problems and her compassionate and insightful teaching.
Sarah has written for Clean Run magazine on topics such as stimulus control, release cues, and toy-related cues. Her current passions include reframing concepts like “impulse control,” and encouraging trainers to embrace a philosophy of brave learning. Sarah is a member of the ClickerExpo faculty, an instructor for Cyber Scent Online, a tutor for Tromplo, and an advisor to the Glendale Humane Society in Los Angeles. She recently began teaching classes for Marin Humane in Novato and consults with their behavior team.
>An avid nose work competitor, Sarah currently competing at both the Elite and Iron Dog levels with her Labrador retriever, Tucker. Tucker was the recipient of the Harry Award in 2015 and has the distinction of titling at each level of NACSW without a single miss. Debbie Martin, LVT, VTS (Behavior), KPA CTP, CPDT-KA is a Licensed Veterinary Technician and a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Behavior (VTS-Behavior) in Texas. She has been a fulltime registered/licensed veterinary technician since 1996 and worked in private practice for more than 14 years. Since 2005, Debbie has been the animal behavior technician for Veterinary Behavior Consultations, LLC. She assists Kenneth Martin, DVM, DACVB, with behavior consultations.
Debbie is the co-owner of TEAM Education in Animal Behavior, a business focused on providing education on humane training and behavior modification and on fostering collaboration between various animal-behavior professions. She is a Karen Pryor Academy (KPA) Faculty Member Emeritus and a member of the Karen Pryor Clicker Training ClickerExpo conference faculty.
Debbie is a contributing author and co-editor of the textbook Canine and Feline Behavior for Veterinary Technicians and Nurses by Wiley-Blackwell. Debbie and Dr. Kenneth Martin have also authored a book on normal development and training for dogs: Puppy Start Right: Foundation Training for the Companion Dog. The pair also authored the Karen Pryor Academy course Puppy Start Right for Instructors. Debbie’s combined experience in general practice and behavior specialty has fueled her passion for preventive behavior medicine and the Fear Free initiative. Debbie is honored to be a subject matter expert for Fear Free Pets and Fear Free Happy Homes. When she is not seeing clients, writing, or speaking, Debbie enjoys spending time at home with her husband, young border terrier, Chip, and Malinois, Ozzi, on their five-acre property in Spicewood, Texas. Terrie Hayward is a certified professional animal trainer and the owner of PAW-Positive Animal Wellness, LLC. Hannah Branigan has been training dogs and teaching people for more than 15+ years. In addition to being a Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP), she is a faculty member for KPA, a professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT), and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT). Hannah is also a popular speaker and teaches workshops all over the country. As the owner of Wonderpups, LLC, Hannah is committed to training both dogs and people with positive reinforcement methods.
Hannah has titled her dogs in conformation, obedience, schutzhund, agility, and rally. Her dogs have multiple class wins, both AKC and UKC High in Trial awards, and scores that qualify for several Front & Finish Awards of Excellence (FFX).

Eva Bertilsson has a master’s degree in behavior analysis and a passion for animal welfare. She has been hooked on positive reinforcement training since the early 1990s. She and her dogs have participated in a variety of dog sports, including high-level obedience; they were part of the national team in agility. Today Eva teaches about behavior in multiple settings, always enjoying networking and connecting people and ideas.
Together with business partner Emelie Johnson Vegh, Eva runs their collaboration Carpe Momentum. “E&E” teach seminars and online courses on a wide variety of topics. They are known for concepts such as seamless training sessions, start-button behaviors, and flowcharts, along with their passion for foundation training for agility and other sports. TAGteach faculty members, Emelie and Eva are committed to creating the best learning environment for humans and non-humans alike. Eva and Emelie met at the agility field 20 years ago. In their book Agility Right from the Start they share their philosophy and structured approach to training, which makes the book a valuable read for all trainers (not just dog-agility enthusiasts).
Eva is a FearFree speaker and a board member of the Swedish Association for Behavior Analysis. One of her most recent cooperations has the nerdy name ABC247.wtf. Kiki Yablon, MA, KPA CTP, CPDT-KA, is a dog trainer with a master’s degree in applied behavior analysis.
